WNY Steelhead 2025 recap!

The Western New York Steelhead trips have been one of our favorite trips going on 15 years now. Year after year the great lakes tributaries never disappoint! Its going to be tough to find a more exciting migratory fishery on this side of the country! Every time you see that indicator go down, or feel that grab on the swing, you know your in for a wild ride! On top of being one of the hardest fighting freshwater fish in the country, there a number of different techniques to target Steelhead on the fly.

The most productive and popular style is nymphing egg patterns. the same principals for all trout nymphing still apply, just bigger fly, indicator, and rod! Another really fun way to get them is swinging the fly. you can swing the fly with a single hand rod or a spey rod depending on the water you are fishing. When steelhead grab the streamer and go berserk it is truly intoxicating. If you are looking to target these fish we would highly recommend trying both styles of fishing if they are in play. They both offer great success depending on the water conditions. Luckily for us; these fish happen to migrate into some of the most beautiful creeks and rivers in the whole north east.

From big rivers in massive shale lined canyons, to small crystal clear streams, you can target steelhead in all of the Great Lake tributary's. The fishing is all walk and wade with some rivers providing easier access than others, giving options to all fisherman regardless of physical ability.

Every season we run 3 trips out to the lake Erie tributaries because of how popular the trip is year after year.
