If you have fished with Reel Action in the past, you know how amazing and professional their operation is. Their Alaska camp runs as a full service tent lodge that has been designed to provide their guests with all the comforts you could ask for. The location of their lodge (1 mile from tide water) was carefully chosen to provide a front row seat to the freshest chrome bright salmon fly fishing action in Alaska. The best holding water to fly fish for fresh run Kings and Chums is right in front of the lodge. What makes their experience so unique, is while having the best access to chrome bright salmon, they also have a tremendous Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden fishery in both the lower and upper river. There is no river in Alaska that provides better opportunities for all species of pacific salmon while also boasting a robust trout and char fishery.

We have carefully picked our week to take advantage of one of the most exciting fishing windows of the whole season. The King Salmon will still be running with opportunities to target them using single hand and spey rods. In addition to the Kings, it is THE prime week to target Chum salmon, an amazing fish to target on the fly.

Although we will be staying on the Kanektok River, what makes this years trip so special is that Reel Action Lodge will also have exclusive access to the Arolik River. This will be the first time in 20 years that any Lodge has had exclusive fishing rights. Only five minutes from camp, The Arolik is a smaller river that is well known for its large mouse eating Rainbows and beautiful Dolly Varden. The Arolik also boasts an amazing Salmon fishery. Each angler will have the privilege of fishing this river for two days during our weeks stay.

In addition to the Arolik, each angler will also have access to the Togiak National refuge. Located in the upper stretches of the Kanektok, it is an endless system of crystal clear creeks and braids dumping into the main river that make this magnificently picturesque area one of the highlights of this trip.

The Kanektok is in a league of its own in terms of King fishing. It is unique amongst other Alaskan rivers in that not only does it provide the opportunity to catch chrome bright fish close to the ocean, but they are in water that makes them very accessible with a fly rod, (swinging technique in particular). If you have ever been interested in swinging a fly, this is a can't miss trip!!

King salmon are an incredibly powerful and impressive fish.  When you land one of these beauties, it is truly a magical moment – so much so, that despite your burning arms, you’ll want to get right back out there and try for another!

We are not only there for Kings; Chum salmon are AWESOME and there is certainly no shortage of them in this river. Available for most of the season, we will be timing our trip with the peak of their run, targeting them when they are fresh, chrome bright, and angry. They are an excellent game fish and are fantastic fighters, often making long runs and contorting themselves into master aerial acrobats. And one thing is certain - once these fish are hooked they do not give up! Averaging 10-14 pounds, chum are perfect for both single-hand and spey-rod techniques. As with king salmon, they will take flies on the swing, but they are also VERY top water oriented. They can be a blast using poppers and even mouse patterns.

While they will not be at the peak of their run, Silver salmon usually make their first appearance during this week. Acrobatic and aggressive, these stunning fish are a memorable fight and will be an exciting encounter.

The Rainbows in the Kanektok average 16-18” and can be caught in the main river as well as in the plethora of smaller side channels. Fish up to and over 24" are caught fairly frequently. You can sight cast for a lot of these fish and they can be caught using a variety of flies and techniques including mouse patterns, beetles, and streamers. Grayling and Dolly Varden will also be present wherever trout lay and are eager to take flies.

After a long full day of fly fishing you will be staying in customized wall tents equipped with all the amenities to be comfortable in Alaska. Each Angler gets their own private tent and there are double occupancy tents available for couples. Each tent includes a stove to help you keep warm and cozy.

It is hard to beat the variety of this incredible river and with new access to the Arolik, you will be able to cover an amazing variety of water during your stay. We have a long working relationship with Reel Action and their guides are some of the best we've ever fished with.
